Next time you buy celery, just cut 1.5″ off the bottom, put in water for 24 hours or more, and then plant it in the garden with the top of the celery level with the soil. Watch it grow! I saw this idea on Pinterest from Farm Bell Recipes blog and just had to try it myself.

cut it
Please email photos of your celery so we can post here OR leave a link to your post/photos on comments below. Thank you!

Does it ever grow back to edible stalks? Or does it just go to flower?
Hi Kathryn, Oh YES! it does grow back to a full celery plant and then you can cut the ends again and never buy celery again. the stalks themselves are now about 3″-4″ after 2.5 weeks.
best, pardis
Oh this is sooo cool! I totally want to try this!

What a fabulous idea! Never new this. I knew you could make pineapples out of pineapple tops ( takes about 2 years) but never knew that you could do this with celery. I am going to go buy some Organic celery and try it out! Thanks for sharing.
I have mine soaking right now. Looking forward to watching it grow back.
Can this be done in containers IN the home instead of planting outside? I live in an apartment.
